Montessori Farm School is a small non-profit located in Orange County, NC. We are currently working to purchase land in the Orange County area to build the farm school. While we work towards this, we are located in our interim location in the education building at the Abundant Life Church.
The Montessori Farm School serves children 3 years through 4th grade. Preschoolers, ages 3-4, attend daily from 8:30 to 12:15. The five year olds (the "extended day" or kindergarten year) along with 1st grade through 4th grade attend daily from 8:30 to 2:30.
Each child is given individual, developmentally appropriate instruction using traditional Montessori materials and methods. Through a series of lessons within each area of the classroom, (including practical life, sensorial, language, math, science, geography, and art), children move from mastering concrete concepts to ones of abstract thinking. Each child is given the foundation and tools to be academically competitive in the future, both in the material they learn and the passion for discovery that is nourished.
Extended Day (5 year olds) through 4th grade students participate in extra curricular subjects designed to enhance their education and understanding of culture, art and science. Weekly lessons in Spanish, art, music and P.E. are vital pieces of our curriculum along with membership in the 4-H organization where students work with animals and study environmental issues.
Through our past farm school experience, we know that the children's daily work with farm animals and in the gardens teaches developmental concepts such as nurturing, respect and patience. The farm itself provides a hands-on teaching environment for science and sensorial lessons and is an essential extension of the classroom. All activities indoors and out have a distinct purpose and goal in the education and growth of our children.
The Montessori Farm School works to provide a learning environment where children are given the opportunity to become well-rounded individuals as they develop respect for others, compassion, self-discipline, and learn the importance of world citizenship. The Montessori philosophy is used in dynamic, carefully prepared environments within the classroom and on the farm to deepen the children's knowledge of the interdependency of the earth and all that live on it.
Our mission extends to the families of each child enrolled in the farm school. We hope to inspire and support each family's quest to live as well-rounded individuals, emphasizing respect, compassion and the true meaning of world citizenship as we work together to raise and educate our children.
